Sweet Earth Flower Farm is a small cut flower farm near Asheville, North Carolina. Located in Old Fort, in the beautiful Crooked Creek Valley of Western NC, Sweet Earth offers fresh, naturally raised cuts for everyday, weddings, and other special occassions.
I started growing flowers as a compliment to the mixed vegetable and livestock operation that I own along with my husband, Casey. Not long after, I realized that working with my flowers was the most enjoyable part of farming. Flowers are an important part of the natural world, and an essential on our sustainable farm. In our farming endeavors, we attempt to mimic nature in as many ways as possible, in order to benefit from natural cycles and processes, and also to leave a a positive impact on the land we steward. Any addition to the farm that increases natural diversity in space or time, and any addition that attracts a host of beneficial birds and insects, is a welcome addition. Flowers add both diversity and habitat, encourage reproduction and renewal of plant species, and are therefore essential, in nature, and on the farm.
"On a list of things that make me the most happy, a bunch of flowers is in the top five," someone once told me. In our world today, there are few things that money can buy that will produce such concrete joy as a bunch of flowers. There is little else we can bring into our homes or gatherings on a regular basis that will remind us of nature's beauty and complexity. Their beauty, in addition to their power in nature, has brought flowers into the lives of humans as well, and they serve to make us happy. Sometimes people ask me if I have a hard time selling flowers because people might consider them "superflous, or extra." I could not disagree more.
Whether you are interested in a few stems for the dinner table, a hand tied bouquet for a friend or relative, or custom arrangements for a wedding or other special occassion, Sweet Earth Flower Farm can provide beautiful blooms, good service, and a great aesthetic. I am willing to work with all customers concerning style, color, and other details. Above all, I do everything I can to grow flowers in the most sustainable way possible, with a deep respect for flowers and their purpose in the complexity of nature.
